The Netherlands 2009

Exchange project of students of the SPSS Olomouc and CL Veenendaal

The Secondary Technical School of Mechanical Engineering Olomouc and Slovanské gymnázium Olomouc organized an exchange project with a Dutch school Christelijk Lyceum Veenendaal. 40 students took part in the project, 10 of them were from STSME Olomouc. 19 – 24 April 2009: Selected students met in Olomouc. During the stay they were learning about Czech culture, history and nature. We visited the Bouzov Castle, caves in Javoříčko, Olomouc Town Hall and the city centre, Open-air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Radhošť, Litovel Brewery, Špilberk Castle and the centre of Brno, and a musical in the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc. 10 – 16 June 2009: Czech students visited their partners in Veenendaal in the Netherlands. During the stay we made a tour round the town of Veenendaal, Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis with the pictures of famous masters, the centre of the Haag, Anna Frank Museum, Jan Amos Komenský Mausoleum in Naarden, cheese farm and a wind mill. We also made a cycling trip to a church in the town of Rhenen with a view to the Rhine River. Students also took part at a sports evening with football, floorball, volleyball and badminton matches. During both parts of the project the students stayed in their partner families, which helped to follow the main goal of the project – intercultural relationship and language practice. Students could also compare their schools and take part in the lessons. They communicated in the English language. Czech-Dutch student pairs worked on their individual projects, which were comparing various cultural aspects of both countries, which they finally presented. The students had a chance to express their opinions on the projects and they were completely positive. This is also one of the reasons, why we made a contact with the Dutch school again in order to repeat the project in the school year 2009/2010.
